ABOUT 70 per cent of Singaporeans complain of dry skin, and this could be partly because of the popular habit of turning on the airconditioning, said a survey.
In the survey, commissioned by pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, 43 per cent of the 242 respondents blamed air-conditioned environments for causing their dry skin.
Dr Mark Tang, National Skin Centre’s consultant dermatologist, said airconditioning is a factor that can cause dry skin.
“You can keep the air-con on for comfort, but...compensate by moisturising more,” he advised.
Other factors causing dry skin include frequent washing with soap, travel to cold countries and genetic diseases such as eczema, he said.
