TECHNOLOGY firm IBM Singapore and Singapore General Hospital (SGH) were big winners at the fifth annual Singapore human resources awards yesterday.
The two organisations bagged the most prizes with eight wins each, including the Corporate HR Award, which is given to organisations that win awards in at least four individual categories.
Other winners of the Corporate HR Award last night included the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Republic Polytechnic and accounting firm KPMG, which won five awards each.
IBM and SGH were also the only two winners of the Corporate HR Champion Award, which recognises continued excellence in HR as it is given to entities that have won the Corporate HR Award at least three times.
In total, 42 organisations received 114 awards for exceptional human resources practices at last night’s ceremony, organised by the Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI).
But individual HR practitioners were also not left out.
Five organisation leaders were given the CEO Award, up from only three last year. They were: Mr Lam Pin Woon from the Health Promotion Board, Mr Bruce Poh from ITE, Ms Yena Lim from the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, Mr Yeo Li Pheow from Republic Polytechnic, and Mr Girija Pande from Tata Consultancy Services Asia Pacific.
At last night’s event, SHRI executive director David Ang highlighted the increasing importance of a high-quality work life.
“A quality work-life environment has become a powerful strategy used by organisations to attract and retain valued employees,” he said.
“Employers who address the needs of employees to have a better work-life balance would definitely have an edge over others in attracting better employees.”
