| Synopsis |
: |
Thalassaemia is the most common genetic disease in Singapore and it affects about 4% of the population. It is passed from parent to child and can affect both males and females. Patients with beta thalassaemia major depend on regular blood transfusions to sustain life. Alpha thalassaemia major is a condition incompatible with life. The affected babies are stillborn or die soon after birth. To commemorate World Thalassaemia Awareness Day on 8 May, each year the National Thalassaemia Registry (NTR) organises a blood donation drive so that members of the public can learn more about thalassaemia and at the same time, donate blood in support of thalassaemia patients. Since 2006, the response for this event has been overwhelming. Come learn more about thalassaemia at KKH! |

| Synopsis |
: |
There is no doubt that the women suffer from pain more than the men do. This diversity widens with advancing age. Women are known to be reluctant to seek medical help for managing their pain. Back pain, neck pain, knee pain, leg pain, shoulder pain, foot pain, and generalised pain associated with tiredness are the commonest pain problems women suffer from. Back pain and leg pain are very common affliction that has a tremendous impact on society through lost productivity and increased health care cost. It is one of the top most causes of absenteeism from work and leads to more productivity loss than any other medical condition. When diagnosed early, many of these conditions may not require surgery and may be managed and controlled, and even cured through medication and minimal invasive techniques.
Many people want to manage their pain without medications or injections. There is a false belief that all medications are harmful and dangerous. Managing pain naturally is a divine concept which unfortunately most of the times does not necessarily materialise in the real world.
We would like to discuss about musculoskeletal pain and nerve condition along with above mentioned common pain problems in women and address the society that there are many recent advances in pain medicine which are available for use. We truly believe that whatever the condition may be, women should never continue to suffer from pain. Give pain a crack, get your life back on track. |
