Male Chinese at the age of 39.Married with two kids.Solebread winner of the family for years.Incredibly devastated when I learned that I am diagnosed with NPC on yesterday from ENT.I have a referral to NCCS and it was scheduled on 9th Jan 12. From my shallow yet intensive findings online, I learned that after several scanning, I will be notified the stages I am in and the details of the treatment etc
What worried me is the waiting duration.I got advice from friend that it will take prolong period to perform varies scanning, releasing of results and commencing of treatments at NCCS.(sorry I may not be that composed currently, but I have no intention to bad mouth or paint any pictures on any medical institution)
In short, it will be a long waiting game, before I may receive the treatment.
As I understand that cancer cells is unique, nobody can exactly predict the growth rate and how destructive it can be within a short time frame.
I was further deepened by the information gathered that my condition may deteriorated while waiting to be treated. It may be a situation when I am set for my treatment, from a beginning stage turn terminal stage due to the prolong intervention.
There are opinions for me to seek a 2nd opinion to expedite the processes. Private hospitals maybe the solution. Thanks much.... | | | Posted: 28/12/2011 09:11 PM

I am a low-medium division civil servant and do enjoy some medical subsidies from some services provided by public/government hospital...but it will be another ball game, if I decided to receive treatment in a private hospital.
I am caught in between public hospital(lower medical fees and assumed longer waiting time) and private hospital(high medical fees certainly but assumed the process should be hastened).
Any seniors here can give me your guidance...I am utterly lost...and it deepens each day...sigh.. | | | Posted: 28/12/2011 09:27 PM

I understand your urgency and need to go for treatment asap. It will take some time for the doctors and therapists to get the tests done and prepare you for treatment. There really is no short-cut for this. It will not take too long for all to be done, notwithstanding your medical class status.
Put your trust in the doctors for they know what needs to be done. If indeed the virus is an agreesive and fast spreading one, they will expedite your case. But almost all nose cancer virus is slow growing. So please don't stress yourself unnecessarily over this.
What is important now is to calm down and be rationale to understand what is happening and what you will be going through soon. I can help as I myself am a 8th year survivor and now lead the NCCS NPC Support Group for the past 5 years. I will be able to share experiences with you and let you know what you can expect going through treatment. I have walked the journey that you will be soon be going through. There are also alot of sharing by other nose cancer survivors in our website under the "library of articles" where you can benefit from. I am sure you will have a better sense and confidence after reading the articles and from my sharing. You can call my mobile 96317887 and I will be glad to meet up with you and your family to share. | | | Posted: 30/12/2011 09:55 AM
