Fa Cai Chap Chye

Impress your relatives with this snazzy presentation of a traditional dish - and delicious recipe. Bonus: Its healthy too!

Ingredients: 4 Servings

  • Dices
  • 25 g taukwa
  • 25 g brinjal
  • 25 g baby corn
  • 25 g cauliflower
  • 25 g carrot
  • 25 g green capsicum
  • 25 g red capsicum
  • 70 g French beans
  • 1 square tofu
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 slices ginger, chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 200 ml water
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • ¼ tsp light soy sauce
  • ½ tsp Chinese Wine
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp cornflour, mixed with 1 dsp water

Method:

  1. Dice taukwa and all the vegetables except French beans.
  2. Boil French beans until cooked and set aside.
  3. Cut tofu into two pieces.
  4. Fry tofu until surface is golden brown.
  5. Cut one side of each piece of tofu and use a spoon to scoop out the inside, making a “tofu chest”. Set aside.
  6. Heat oil. Fry ginger then garlic until fragrant.
  7. Add brinjal and baby corn and fry well.
  8. Then add long beans,, cauliflower, carrot, capsicums and taukwa. Stir well and add water.
  9. Season with pepper, soy sauce, Chinese wine and salt.
  10. Add cornflour mixture to the vegetables.
  11. Remove from heat and transfer to “tofu chests”.
  12. Serve hot with french beans.
