10 Tips to Quit Smoking

- Throw away anything that might remind you of the habit, such as lighters and ashtrays.
- Make it known to your family and friends that you’re quitting and seek their help and support.
- Make a list of your quit buddies who are also thinking of quitting, and of your non-smoking friends who will support you.
- Put up “No Smoking” signs where you can see them to remind yourself of your new resolution.
- Expect withdrawal symptoms and have a plan ready for what you will do when this happens.
- Prepare a “rescue kit” with sugarfree sweets, handheld games etc. to distract you from cravings.
- Every time you feel the urge to light up, have a sugar-free mint or drink water and let the craving pass.
- Check out the “My Quit Plan”, a six-session online quit plan for an interactive and personalised guide to quitting at Health Promotion Board.
- Take up a new sport or exercise to keep your mind off smoking.
- Keep trying. Even if you fail, start the quitting process again. It takes more than one try to succeed.
