Escalator safety tips

Here's how to prevent foot injuries in children when riding escalators:

1. Supervise

Supervise your child on the escalator.  

2. Hold handrails

Always face front and hold the handrail firmly.

3. Be mindful

Once on the steps, be mindful of clothes with strings or straps, as they may get trapped between escalator grooves.

4. Avoid the edge of steps

Avoid the edge of steps where footwear can be trapped. Stand in the middle of a step instead.

5. Maintain a good distance

Maintain a good distance between the footwear and any moving metallic parts of an escalator.

6. Constant reminder

Remind children not to sit, turn around or play on escalator steps.

7. Do not lean
